Rep Huffman leads initiative urging the US EPA to target and investigate Bitcoin Miners. The letter uses repeatedly-disproven claims to target decentralized Proof-of-Work consensus algorithms. The letter states, "We have serious concerns regarding reports that cryptocurrency facilities across the country are polluting communities" and "A single Bitcoin transaction could power the average U.S. household for a month.", displaying a severe lack of understanding of blockchain technology and Proof-of-Work consensus.

Rep Huffman fails to understand Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies' energy use and environmental impact. While also stating Tesla "still have lots of money in bitcoin shares" and "actually owns shares in the Bitcoin company" in a facebook post comments. "I love what Tesla has done for EVs and battery technology, but the company's simultaneous support for cryptocurrency is unacceptable. No one should be able to profit from GHG offsets while pouring money into bitcoin which increases GHG emissions (so that hackers, criminals and conspiracists can have an untraceable way of moving money). I'm sure there are quite a few Tesla owners and shareholders among my supporters. Please let Tesla know that this must stop immediately!"
