Rep Sherman says during a congressional hearing quote: "The problem is it is damn hard to cheat on your taxes and it is damn hard to run a drug sales operation with the US Dollar." Implying that those things are now easy because of "crypto". Tax evasion and drug sales occurred, en mass, in the United States, using the US Dollar in the decade Rep Sherman spent as a Congressman before Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies were ever invented. But he turned a blind eye.

Rep Sherman complains that drug dealers use cryptocurrencies for payments. Conveniently fails to mention the most widely used currency for drug dealers in the world is the US Dollar.

Rep Sherman and Rep Lynch sign a letter to the IRS and Treasury urging the release of cryptocurrency tax regulations. "For many years, the cryptocurrency industry has been a major source of tax evasion and a significant part of the nation's tax gap," the letter claims, without evidence.

Rep Sherman signs on to initiative urging the US EPA to target and investigate Bitcoin Miners. The letter uses repeatedly-disproven claims to target decentralized Proof-of-Work consensus algorithms. The letter states, "We have serious concerns regarding reports that cryptocurrency facilities across the country are polluting communities" and "A single Bitcoin transaction could power the average U.S. household for a month.", displaying a severe lack of understanding of blockchain technology and Proof-of-Work consensus.
